Open Market Operations

Open market operations are carried out on the intervention markets and play an important role in BCV’s monetary policy. Their objectives include controlling short-term interest rates, managing liquidity in the market, and signaling the monetary policy stance.

The operation consists of weekly interventions, through the issuance of Monetary Regularization Securities (Títulos de Regularização Monetária), at a fixed rate (policy rate), and interventions with Monetary Intervention Securities (Títulos de Intervenção Monetária), with maturities of up to one year at the market rate, as a way of monitoring the liquidity situation in the banking system.
